There's a special sound coming from Kenosha that you've probably never heard. That's because it's an instrument played by only one person in the world.

“It resonates with something inside me," Wilhelm Matthies said.

The instrument is called a Mosesa. It's a bit like a smaller and skinnier cello that is played horizontally. No one else plays it because the instrument was invented by Matthies inside his Kenosha home. He's a musician, artist, creator, and inventor.

Kenosha musician creates unique sound by building experimental instruments

NEW BERLIN — We Energies is blaming the heavy snow and cold for all of the power outages Friday to Monday.

After two and a half days, the power has been restored on Meadow Lane in New Berlin.

The owner of 19th Hole Country Club in New Berlin was busy warming the place back up.

“When I got here yesterday morning, it was 42 degrees in here,” said Susan Pirlot. "I’ve been without business since Friday night. It was a significant loss. I don’t know yet if insurance will cover it or not. I haven’t gotten that far.”

The power did not come on until about 11:30 a.m. Monday. Neighbor Dave Podd said, “It’s about time! I can take a shower.”

About 60 hours with no power. We Energies spokesman Brendan Conway could not confirm exactly what caused this outage, but scattered outages took place this weekend due to the snow taking down tree limbs onto their equipment.

Thousands without power, one block for nearly 60 hours straight

With the cold temperatures, many small lakes and ponds are starting to freeze over. On the coldest day of the year, ice fishers were out braving the elements all in hopes of catching a big fish.

Fishermen say, with such a warm December, these are the first changes they've gotten to get on the ice with rod and reel. 

These cold temperatures mean big business for R&R Sporting Goods Fishin' Hole in St Francis.

"Ice fishing is a tremendous sport in the winter, it’s a lot of fun," said Roger Stack, general manager.

As more people head out on the ice, Stack recommends certain tools for safety, including a spud bar to check the ice in front of you, ice cleats, ice picks to climb out if you fall through the ice, and an SOS jacket.

Braving the cold: Enthusiasts kick off ice fishing season on coldest day of year

In Today's Talker — A Midwest Airport is creating a major buzz on social media with its newest addition.

The Indiana Pacers posted a tweet with a picture of the Indianapolis International Airport. It shows a full length basketball court that was installed in the middle of the terminal to welcome fans to next month's NBA All Star Game.

Hulk smash! Special 'guest' crashes 4-year-old's birthday party

A Milwaukee man who ran back into his burning apartment to rescue his cat was found dead.

This happened in a five-story apartment complex near Cambridge and North Avenue on Wednesday.

Fire investigators say a woman was smoking a cigarette in bed Wednesday night, while connected to her oxygen tank. Something firefighters say you should never, do as oxygen tanks are highly flammable. Investigators say an explosion took place as she was smoking and the bed she and her husband were in caught on fire.

Man dies after running into burning apartment to save cat

The Bucks organization is making it more accessible to show off your team spirit with MagnaReady apparel. MagnaReady is an adaptive clothing brand that uses magnets instead of buttons and zippers on clothing. Now, you can get MagnaReady Bucks gear.

For Bucks President Peter Feigin, it's personal. "My father had been disabled as well and this is like miraculous. This is incredible."

Wisconsin Weekend in a Minute: Winterfest, Waukesha Janboree, Monster Jam and more

Following a mostly dry December, Milwaukee County crews began pre-treating roads early Friday morning ahead of weekend snow.

The county's highway director, Eddie Santiago, says while 50 workers went out on the first shift another 50 were waiting to take the overnight shift to ensure 24-hour coverage.

Pretreating roads: Repair shop urges drivers to prep cars

Over the past 10 years, a Milwaukee man has become known nationwide for his knives that are as sharp as they are beautiful. Chefs from across the country including contestants on TV shows like Iron Chef use his cutlery. His business continues to grow, and now he is opening a bigger and better shop.

"Business is continually increasing. Its been really really wonderful just as more and more people find out that we exist," Nathan Zimmerman, the owner of Zim Knives, said.

He is a bladesmith and craftsman. He makes knives, swords, cutting boards, and more. He also sharpens just about anything that has an edge from knives to gardening tools to saws. Zimmerman's specialty is crafting and sharpening kitchen knives.

Transformers explode during winter storm

One of the most unique homes in Wisconsin just went on the market. From 1865-2023, it wasn't even a home either. But after some renovations, a Methodist Church has been turned into a residential home and was listed at the beginning of 2024.
