Local activists continue to push for the Tampa Citizens Review Board to have an independent attorney, which means someone who is not a city employee.   

The Citizens Review Board was created in 2015 to enhance trust and transparency between police and the community.  

It's a panel of citizens who review disciplinary cases from Tampa Police and give recommendations.

For weeks, they’ve been three of the hundreds of people pushing back against Hillsborough County Public Schools’ effort to adjust its attendance boundaries which would change where thousands of students attend school.

As many families prepared for Super Bowl Sunday, nearly 180 members of the Berkeley Prep community helped the U.S. Hunger Project pack meals for 37,000 local families in need.  

“We are a very giving community,” said the school’s community engagement director Buck Johnson.  

The school teamed up with the Hunger Project, 68 Hours, and Hillsborough Education Foundation. This is the school’s twelfth year packing meals.

Manatee County law enforcement completed a sweep of Parrish Community High School after what Manatee County Administrator Dr. Scott Hopes called a "significant" bomb threat.  

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday morning, school leaders safely evacuated students from Parrish Community High School to a safe location following multiple bomb threats. 

The Sheriff's Office said a comprehensive search found no explosive devices.  

During a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff Rick Wells said these threats have come through the Fortify Florida app.

It’s all part of Future Career Academy’s mission to give students the best opportunity to find gainful employment right out of high school.  

On any given day, a bus full of high school seniors will pull up in front of one of more than 100 Hillsborough companies eager to show and tell, like Bausch + Lomb.

HCSO detectives are searching for Paul Wayne Williams II, 32, in connection to the events on Saturday night.  

On Feb. 4, just after 8:30 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting at the Shell gas station off I-4 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.   

Michael Fordyce said the nightmare plays in his mind on repeat. He said he was driving the vehicle and his husband, David Keeley, was in the passenger's seat. 

The couple had met a man earlier and gave him a ride. The suspect was in the backseat.

Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show eggs are 70% more expensive than they were a year ago.  Economists believe there are lots of factors driving up the costs.  

“With eggs specifically, you know there’s not necessarily one specific thing that you can point to say that this is definitely the reason why eggs are more expensive,” said Michael Snipes, Associate Professor of Instructor in Economics at USF.

According to the most recent report from the U.S. Census Bureau, Polk County was the fastest-growing county in the U.S. in 2021. 

The report specifically named Lakeland-Winter Haven the seventh fastest-growing metro area in the country.  

“Today is a culmination of a lot of hard work on behalf of the City of Winter Haven — our planning committee and our planning commission to finally have workforce housing coming to Winter Haven,” the city’s Mayor Bradley Dantzler told ABC Action News at a very special event on January 30.  

It was the groundbreaking of Winter Haven’s first affordable housing complex, two years in the making.
