And it’ll get worse if the government shuts down.  Wednesday marked three weeks since Florida’s latest hurricane, Idalia, made landfall. The Category 3 storm devastated parts of the Big Bend, impacting thousands. And, according to state officials, Congress' fight over a new spending plan isn't making things any easier.

A 13-year-old bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by a Tampa Police vehicle Wednesday night.  The Tampa Police Department (TPD) said that at 7:40 p.m., an officer was traveling westbound along Busch Boulevard, crossing N. 22nd Street, when a 13-year-old bicyclist attempted to cross Busch southbound.  The vehicle then struck the bicyclist, knocking her off her bike.

A Plant City family is dead after their SUV was hit by a freight train going 55 mph.   Sheriff Chad Chronister said Saturday night that the SUV flipped several times and violently ejected five people, including at least two children.   It was later confirmed Sunday afternoon that the number of people dead increased to six, including three children.

Condo owners in the Tampa Bay area may be facing a double whammy in the coming months between homeowners insurance and inspection costs.  The rate increases come as private homeowners insurance companies have failed or moved out of state. Taxpayer-backed Citizens Property Insurance has also announced plans to shed thousands of policies.

The Hernando County Fire Rescue is on the scene of a single-vehicle crash where the vehicle crashed into a residence and fell into a pool in the 300 block of Keltner Ct.  HCFR said the driver was successfully extricated from the vehicle and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

After an extensive four-day, around the clock investigation, Monday Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd announced the arrests of four people in connection to the murder of 15-year-old Quashawn Burgess, Jr.  Rashan Harris II of Bartow, Lilia Gonzalez of Winter Haven, Jase Govia of Winter Haven and Pierre Sauveur of Winter Haven all face a slew of charges. According to the sheriff’s office all of the suspects have extensive arrest histories.  “These folks have been in prison; they’ve been in jail. They've all got criminal histories and at the end of the day we have a 15-year-old kid that’s dead,” said Judd.
