37-year-old Milwaukee Police Officer Peter Jerving with four years of service was shot and killed Tuesday morning when trying to arrest the suspect of an armed robbery, police say.

We are learning more about Officer Jerving from some of his close friends and longtime coworkers.

Before joining the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD), Jerving worked for more than 10 years at Western States Envelope and Label in Butler, setting-up and troubleshooting factory equipment.

Barb Kurcz and Mary Lynn Ellis remember the day he started. They had already been working there for 20 years.

“His smile from ear to ear just stood out,” said Kurcz. “He had a laugh to match it. He was so energetic and full of life. He really listened and got to know everyone. People just loved him, and he loved them back.”

Friends, coworkers reflect on their love for fallen police officer

A 15-year-old girl is hospitalized with critical injuries after being shot near 17th and Capitol Thursday night. Milwaukee police are still investigating and have no one in custody for it.

On Friday morning, Mayor Cavalier Johnson, local activists, and people directly impacted by gun violence gathered at city hall to declare this first week of February, “National Gun Violence Survivors Week” in Milwaukee.

Gun violence has become a public health crisis in the city, and leaders are asking everyone who lives and works here, to get involved in solutions.

Mothers who lost children are leading effort to end gun violence

People across Wisconsin and the country are honoring fallen Milwaukee Police Officer Peter Jerving on Monday by holding a procession and funeral for him in the community he helped protect.  37-year-old Jerving was killed in a struggle with an armed robbery suspect early Tuesday morning, according to Milwaukee police. The suspect also died in the struggle, police say.

A final goodbye for fallen Milwaukee police officer

In an interview with TMJ4 News, a local pastor who shares the same family with fallen Milwaukee police officer Peter Jerving tells us there is a new way to donate to help Jerving's family as they mourn his loss.

37-year-old Jerving was shot and killed during a struggle with an armed robbery suspect early Tuesday morning. The suspect was also shot and died, according to Milwaukee police.

Pastor shares new way to donate to fallen police officer

A new plan released by Gov. Tony Evers would provide tens of millions of dollars in the next budget to communities to help them 're-engineer' roads to decrease reckless driving.

NUTS AND BOLTS: The plan includes $60 million for traffic calming project grants, $6.5 million to lower cost of driver’s ed, 35 more State Troopers, ignition interlock devices after 1st OWI, increase seat belt violation fine to $25, among other measures.

Rihanna announces pregnancy during Super Bowl Halftime Show

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers announced a new plan Tuesday to keep the Brewers in Milwaukee for the next 20 years as part of the 2023-25 biennial budget proposal.

The governor's plan would need approval from the Republican-controlled legislature.

In a statement released early Tuesday morning, the governor said the plan would make a one-time investment of $290 million in the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District from the state's $7 billion surplus, ensuring the team stays through 2043. Gov. Evers says without the investment, the Brewers and Major League Baseball (MLB) could leave at the end of the 2030 season, when the current lease with American Family Field expires.

Gov. Evers wants $290 million to help maintain Brewers stadium

US Marshals arrested more than 100 fugitives in Milwaukee during a 30-day operation called Operation North Star II (ONS II).

According to a news release from the US Marshal Service, ONS II was executed in 10 different areas: Albuquerque, New Mexico; Buffalo, New York; Cleveland; Columbus, Ohio; Detroit; Jackson, Mississippi; Kansas City, Missouri; Milwaukee; Oakland, California, and Puerto Rico.

The operation resulted in 833 arrests, including 114 in Milwaukee.

Procession for fallen Milwaukee police officer

The crash happened on northbound I-41 near mile marker 326, near Raymond, Wisconsin, according to WisDOT

The first call came in around 12:40 p.m. with all roads opened by 2:45 p.m. 

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation said three people were injured. They are all expected to make full recovering

Three other minor crashes happened simultaneously as a result of the bigger crashes.

Winter storm causes freeway pileup in Southeast Wisconsin

We're about a year and a half away from the arrival of the 2024 Republican National Convention and today, we learned a few new details from officials.

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said during the press briefing Thursday that "You should be able to expect that we'll have a debate here in Milwaukee."

Host committee Chief Executive Officer Steve King said they are working with a Chicago-based firm OnPeak to arrange contracts with 300-400 hotels in Wisconsin in a 60-mile radius to help house the convention’s visitors.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson joined King, McDaniel, and MKE 2024 Host Committee Chair Reince Priebus on Thursday to officially mark the journey to the convention.

"We've got a few political differences, but we are united and that we have a desire to make sure that Milwaukee shines in the summer of 2024," Mayor Johnson said.

Scattered rain showers and gusty winds moving in

Latrone White, 23, has been identified as the young man who died when he lost control of his car and crashed into a house on 60th Street between Melvina and Capitol on Sunday around 10 a.m.

Family and friends of White say he was a good person, a kind coworker on the cleanup crew at Froedtert Hospital, and a father to a little girl who loved him dearly.

White's older sister says White dropped her off at work Sunday morning but never made it home. She got a call hours later while still at work that her brother had been killed in a crash.

Police say White and the driver of another car, a 44-year-old man who was taken into custody and could face charges, were speeding down 60th street together when White swerved to miss a vehicle turning at Capitol. Investigators say White lost control of his car, crossed the center median, and crashed into a house.
